The Bow Valley Adult Learning Centre takes its privacy obligations seriously. This privacy policy explains how personal information is collected, used, shared and safeguarded. Personal information is information that could identify you such as your name and email address.

Our collection, use and sharing of your personal information is regulated by the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (Canada), as well as the Personal Information Protection Act (Alberta). How your information may be collected, shared and used

Use of our website

Our website, bowvalleylearning.ca uses the WordPress content management system. WordPress collects both non-personally-identifying information such as the browser type, language preference, referring site, and the date and time of each visitor request as well as potentially personally-identifying information like Internet Protocol (IP) addresses.

The Bow Valley Adult Learning Centre uses Google Analytics to provide statistics and analysis on the usage of our website, bowvalleylearning.ca. Through Google Analytics we collect aggregate information about user activity on our website (for example, the pages viewed most often as well as for how long) as well as information such as IP addresses that can help identify the country of the user. More detailed information about how Google uses the information it collects through the Analytics application can be found here.

In addition, our site. bowvalleylearning.ca, contains links to third party applications. The Bow Valley Adult Learning Centre is not responsible for the privacy practices of linked websites/applications and we suggest you review the privacy policies of each before using them.

Third party applications

The Bow Valley Adult Learning Centre uses other applications to facilitate communication with us, allow you to make appointments and to pay for classes.

Calendly
We use Calendly to make it easier to schedule appointments with our program coordinator. The information you enter, such as your name is subject to their privacy policy which can be found here.

Google
We use Google Gmail for our email communication. Google collects personal information and unique identifiers such as names. Details on their privacy policy and privacy settings can be found here.

Moneris
The Bow Valley Adult Learning Centre uses Moneris to allow you to make payments using a credit or debit card to pay for classes or other services. If you consent to using Moneris, they will collect personal information such as your name and your debit or credit card information. Their complete privacy policy can be found here.

Registration Information

The Bow Valley Adult Learning Centre is part of a network of Community Adult Learning Programs funded by the Government of Alberta. The Bow Valley Adult Learning Centre collects personal information (name, email, phone number, etc.) on hard copy registration forms and this information is also captured in the Community Adult Learning Centre (CALP) database. The CALP database policy can be found in Appendix A.

The Bow Valley Adult Learning Centre collects personal information using a hard copy registration form when you register to use our services. This includes your name, email address, phone number and additional demographic information as provided by you. We also note whether or not we have your permission to contact other community organizations and service providers on your behalf. You will be asked to sign the form when complete. We work hard to protect information about you against unauthorized access, use, alteration, or destruction, and take all reasonable measures to do so. Hard copy registration forms are kept in secure storage and destroyed after seven years.

We use the email you provide to us to communicate about class changes or cancellations and to promote our classes and services. We do not share your information with other organizations unless we have signed consent from you, or if it is required by law. We do not store your personal information outside of Canada.

Your personal registration information is entered into the Community Adult Learning Program (CALP) database. This database also contains a record of which classes you attended with us and your payment history. More information about the CALP database and their privacy policy can be found in Appendix A.

Requesting access to or correcting your personal information

Subject to applicable laws and regulations, you may have some or all of the following rights with respect to your personal data:

  • to access your personal data and to rectify any inaccuracies within that personal data;
  • to request for the erasure of your personal data residing with us;
  • to request your personal data in portable, machine-readable format; and
  • to withdraw your consent to our processing of your personal data.

If you wish to contact us with a request relating to personal information we hold about you, please contact us using the contact details below. We may need to verify your identity before providing you with your personal information.

In some cases we may be unable to provide you with access to all your personal information and where this occurs we will explain why. We will deal with all requests for access to personal information within a reasonable timeframe.
