High-Beginner / Low-Intermediate English
Learners in this class are able to understand information about familiar everyday topics and participate in conversations where they can describe personal experiences using short sentences. Learners are able to read many familiar words and sentences and are able to use short, simple sentences to write a paragraph.
Prior to moving on to an intermediate-level class, learners will be able to understand many common words, some less familiar words, some idioms, and have little to no difficulty in understanding someone when they are having a conversation. Learners will be able to speak about facts and ideas in some detail and are able to use different grammatical structures and connect ideas into longer sentences. Learners are able to understand short texts written in plain English that are more difficult to understand. Learners are able to understand some indirect meanings, the writer’s purpose, intent, and tone. Learners are able to describe or compare events, people, places, objects, and routines in a paragraph format. Learners’ simple sentences have minimal errors in spelling, grammar, and vocabulary.
These classes are held twice per week, with each class being two hours in length.
