Beginner English
July 15 to August 21, 2025
Learners are able to understand short sentences and simple questions about familiar, everyday topics. Learners are able to understand when someone talks about what they like or dislike and need minimal help to understand what people say. Learners progress from being able to say a few simple sentences to participating in everyday conversations describing personal experiences, likes, and dislikes. Learners are able to read many familiar words and sentences and are able to understand simple stories about familiar topics. Learners progress from writing short, simple sentences to being able to write a paragraph using simple sentences about a personal experience or other familiar topic.
This class is twice per week, with each class being two hours long.

Time:
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 pm to 9 pm.
Completion
To receive a Certificate of Participation, learners must attend at least 80% of the classes.
Fee
The fee for this class is $150. See below for information regarding payment options and financial assistance.

- Visit our Banff or Canmore offices, Monday to Thursday, 12 PM to 4 PM
- Book an appointment with the coordinator in either Banff or Canmore. The program coordinator can provide you with information about learning options and resources.
Registrations are accepted within the first 2 weeks of the class start date. No discounts will be applied.
Payment Options
You can pay using a credit or debit card, cash, or e-transfer. Payment is due upon registration. If a withdrawal is made in the first week, a full refund will be issued

Financial Assistance
For our core classes, we accept the Banff Access Card, the Canmore Affordable Services Card, and the Lake Louise ID9 Access Card. Your access card must be presented when you register for class and can only be used if your employer is not paying a portion of the course fee.
Class Cancellations/Withdrawals
- Schedule changes and class cancellations are sometimes unavoidable. If we postpone or reschedule a class, we will make every effort to notify registrants.
- Withdrawals are accepted up to 4:00 pm, the Thursday of the first week of the classes. A full refund will be issued.
- Bow Valley Adult Learning Centre requires a minimum enrollment of six learners for each class & classes with insufficient enrolment are cancelled one week prior to the course start date unless otherwise stated. Refunds will be issued for class cancellations.
