Bow Valley Adult Learning Centre

Offering adult learning opportunities for the Bow Valley

We are a non-profit that provides part-time, non-formal, low and no-cost, foundational adult learning programs in literacy, numeracy, English language, basic computer and learning skills.

The Bow Valley Adult Learning Centre

The Bow Valley Adult Learning Centre is a member of the Community Adult Education Network funded by the Alberta Ministry of Advanced Education.

We provide and promote foundational courses in English language, math, digital skills, and skills for success to learners in Banff, Canmore, Lake Louise, and Mînî Thnî.

We also offer a range of learner support services such as tutoring, help filling out forms, and preparation for English language tests or CAEC (Formally GED).

We are proud to work in partnership with a number of community organizations to build inclusive and equitable communities.

Land Acknowledgement

We acknowledge that we are guests on Treaty 7 lands. We understand the intent of the treaty signed by the Îyȃhre (Stoney) Nakoda (Bearspaw, Chiniki and Goodstoney First Nations), Tsuut’ina, and the Blackfoot Confederacy (Kainai, Piikani, Siksika First Nations) and we will live harmoniously on these lands. We will respect our natural environment in our business practices and our personal lives.

We acknowledge that the lands across the area we serve provided sustenance, security and healing to generations of Inuit, Indigenous and Metis peoples and we are committed to being stewards of these lands so that they may continue to provide for generations to come.

Commitment to Building Relations

We are committed to learning the truths of the intergenerational trauma caused by the Indian Residential School system and aim to provide learning opportunities for adult Indigenous learners from across Turtle Island that make the Bow Valley home. We celebrate their diversity and provide a safe space to gain foundational skills and knowledge using the teachings of the Medicine Wheel.
